President Randy Jensen, MD welcomed members and guests to the 47th Annual Meeting of the Rocky Mountain Neurosurgical Society, jointly sponsored by the AANS, in Maui, HI, June 16-21, 2012. Dr. Stewart Levy did a superb job with his arrangements for us at The Fairmont, located on the southwestern side of Maui surrounded by golf courses in tropical Wailea. Dr. Kelly Schmidt was our Scientific Program Chairman and prepared a wonderful scientific program. Our honored guests were Dr. Jeff Bruce and Dr. Charles Branch. Dr. Bruce is Professor of Neurological Surgery and Vice Chairman of Academic Affairs at Columbia University, Director of the Bartoli Brain Tumor Re-search Laboratory and discussed nuances of pineal region surgery and convection de-livery of topotecan to malignant gliomas. Dr. Branch, who is Professor and Chair of Neurosurgery at Wake Forest University, Chair of AANS/CNS Section on Spine and Edi-tor in Chief of The Spine Journal, gave a detailed discussions on minimally invasive spine surgery that intrigued us all.

The general scientific program, once again, offered a broad spectrum of neurosurgical topics in an atmosphere that stimulated and encouraged open and friendly discussion. This opportunity for unencumbered collegial discussions and the sharing of individual clinical experiences remains one of the highlights and major attractions of the RMNS annual meeting. Our social events calendar was also attended with enthusiasm.

This year the first place Resident Award went to Christian Bowers, MD. Second place went to Yasuaki Harasaki, with Third Place a tie between Danny Klinger Paul Ka-loostian. Awards included a monetary prize and travel reimbursement supported by our Resident Fund.

The Academy Cup, presented annually to the best paper by a member of the society, went to Paul House for his presentation on “Recurrent, Delayed Intracranial Hemor-rhage Associated with Edoxaban and DBS”.

This year attendees also enjoyed a tremendous tropical adventure walking along the Wailea beaches, playing spectacular golf, and touring the inland rainforests of Maui were bamboo lined trails along tropical pools are unique to this island.
