Dear Jim:

I have just been honored by being asked to appear as Guest Speaker for the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Rocky Mountain Neurosurgical Society in Colorado Springs this Fall. Needless to say I am quite pleased and I would like very much to present them with a significant momento from our Royal College. I have in mind having a gavel made with a suitably inscribed silver band. Is there, from your office or anywhere on the premises, a piece of wood that could be said to have come from the building when it was being built, even if it is an old discarded scrap? If so I would greatly appreciate having this sent along. If it is enough to make a complete gavel, fine. If it is only a small piece that could be incorporated with other woods, that would also be fine. I would, of course, pay all expenses incurred. If you can find such a piece please ship it to me collect. Possibly you could whittle a piece off one of the girders from the basement if you can’t find anything else.

Best personal regards,

Sincerely,

Dwight Parkinson, M.D.
